Just thought I’d keep the rest of you up to date about certain designs and business ideas that I’ve been implementing lately.

First things firs, I found a combination that would get you a full color 2×5 vinyl banner and stand AND bag AND including shipping, for $77.76. I’m making one, in fact that’s today’s goal. The banner you can purchase here and the you want this stand. This seems like a pretty winning combination, but I can be the guinea pig for this first batch as well, and I’ll give status reports.

I’ve also been implementing a lot of store changes, but those’ll be further along when I have more merch. But for now, I’ve started slipping these in with commission orders. I put my business card in the holder there, and since they’re printed off on cardstock, I can also draw a little promo sketch on the back. On the back of my business card, I write the code which they can then use on their next purchase. These were just introduced yesterday, so I’ll let you know how they do. I’ll also be giving these out at AWA.

Speaking of AWA. Those of you who are going, I still need your press kits. I have most of Daves, but remember, I need your bio including when you joined MM, a short sample interview/FAQ, and three samples of your work. The purpose of these it to make a CD that we can hand out to people with press badges, letting them know a little about us. Good sample questions would be, “What got you into comics, how do you make your comics, and who are your major artistic influences.” Send it to me at tabts.comic(at)gmail.com

Hey there kids!

Just a quick update of the progress of Naka-Con Day one, a fairly slow friday business-wise, but otherwise it was super fun. A lot of fun people came to the table, and as you can see, we looked like badasses. Zac had a few extra eye patches for some bizarre reason, so we figured, “Hey, why not.” A lot of people came up to us, and as always, we were the loudest and most aggressive people there. We would have made you proud James.

We’ll have a larger update tomorrow, but here’s some pictures of the fun we had today.

Naka-con is the Kansas City Anime Convention that will be held in the Hyatt Regency in the middle of Crown center. Trasportation to and from the Airport is available in the form of the KC SuperShuttle.

KCI SUPER SHUTTLE (Hours 5:50am-11:25pm)
$17.00 per person – $29.00 round trip per person. Leaves from Baggage Claim area at 5 minutes to the hour and 25 minutes after the hour. Reservations are not required.

Kinda unfortunate that they charge that, but it’s a hell of a lot cheaper than a cab, as that’s like $40. I will be arriving on Thursday evening, at around 5:30. Con-schedule is fairly standard, 4pm to 8pm on friday, 10am to 6pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm. Also, a fair number of my friends and family will be coming by, possibly not into the convention itself as day passes are expensive ($35) but they would love to hang out with us afterward (i.e. Food and Drink!)

As far as swag to bring, the majority of the items will be the magnets that I’ve been working on, and the prints that always seem to follow me at conventions. I’ll have my banner and the markers as per usual. Any vertical display that you guys can think of would be great, as I don’t really have anything that would work.

I’m lookin’ forward to this one guys, I think it’ll be great.

For one, I’ve started doing TABtS again, and I’m very happy about that fact. I’m going to be sticking to a MWF update schedule this semester, so yay for that. Also, I’ve done some rather cool site revisions. I remade the top banner, made it so the avatar changes for each news post depending on my mood, and a few other minor changes. BUT the one that I’m particularly proud of is the new Mediocre Militia button on the side now. Now, its a much larger half-banner that every time the page is loaded, switches to a picture showcasing our art for each of the comics. It’s a very simple php script and I can give it to anyone who’s interested. Let me know!

Anyway. Naka-Con coming up. It’ll be myself, Zac, and Dave in attendance. Oh yeah.

Naka-Con anime convention in Kansas City is coming up in the month of February. For those who would be interested in attending, I have table and hotel already taken care of. That means that all you would have to do is fly down. Let me know if you guys would be interested, I know Zac and Carly and I talked about maybe hitting up some anime conventions this upcoming year, but if any others would like to come along, let me know and I’ll start getting the weekend badges. I’m lookin’ at you Froo. It’s high time you joined us on one of these escapades and I think you’d do wonderfully.

Let me know guys, I’d like to get the badges ready by the first week of January.

Well here you go. Drawn on 2.5×3.5 Bristol squares, and colored with prisma colors. All of these will be available for sale for $2 at the next convention.

I’m contemplating mounting them on foam board, but we’ll see how many of these I end up making, as that will determine my drive to cut out ten zillion foam board squares.

In other news, I’ve just finished a fun little trading card series for cons. I’ll upload pictures once I finish scanning them in. At a local art store, they were selling packs of 2.5″x3.5 Bristol paper for like $1 for 20 sheets. They’re really great for tiny sketches, and super easy to color with marker. If people are interested, let me know, and I can send you some. That, or you know, you could get a giant sheet of bristol and cut it. Hahah! Still, they’re fun.

That’s about all I got. That and Carly and I will be hitting up the Dickens Festival here in SF. Which, is pretty much a Ren Fair, but set in Charles Dickens’ time period. I’m bringing my monocle.
