Did Hell Freeze Over?!

No, no it did not, but somehow, someway, Carly Mizzou is making a post. Oh, OH NO, and not just any post, a post with art.  Art and news, thanks to my Dad, a guy named Jeremy (that looks strikingly like Shaggy from Scoob Doo), and a 40% off coupon for Blick I now have a 156 prismacolor marker set. An AMAZING set full of colors, *ahem* colors I do not know how to use, YET!  Just you wait then you’ll be sorry, wait, no you will be happy because I will draw with something other than sharpies. Oh my beloved sharpies.  oh and James, Joey, Zac, and Julianne can use them anytime. YAY! (I said YAY goddamn you!)me

Daily Studies! ACTIVATE!

So I’ve started doing the speed paint practices again, just to try and improve my production time. I’ve been trying out a few new ways to slowly phase out lineart in the larger pieces, but progress is slow.

11-4-2009

In other news, I’ve just finished a fun little trading card series for cons. I’ll upload pictures once I finish scanning them in. At a local art store, they were selling packs of 2.5″x3.5 Bristol paper for like $1 for 20 sheets. They’re really great for tiny sketches, and super easy to color with marker. If people are interested, let me know, and I can send you some. That, or you know, you could get a giant sheet of bristol and cut it. Hahah! Still, they’re fun.

That’s about all I got. That and Carly and I will be hitting up the Dickens Festival here in SF. Which, is pretty much a Ren Fair, but set in Charles Dickens’ time period. I’m bringing my monocle.

Jealous? You should be.

Where to start?

So…hey, gang. I know, I know, I’ve been an absentee member lately, and I apologize.  I’ve got a good excuse, though: I’ve been crazy busy.

A few weeks ago, I signed The Path with Matt Jacob’s company, Outland Entertainment. Most of you will remember Matt from our first Wizard World Texas. He’s always been a good friend of MM, and even bought us the domain name in the first place before Zac got it from him.

So, what’s in store for The Path? I whole freaking LOT.

  • The collected edition (issues 1-4 and the short story “The Cutty Black Sow” and featuring a forward by Kevin Hayman) has been sent to print. Arcana comics has gotten in touch with Matt, saying they want to help distribute The Path!
  • “Strange Tales of The Path” collected edition, compiling “The Path” stories done by other creators! Featuring a story by MM’s own Barry Linck!
  • Mobile-only downloadable stories are coming for your smart-phone/iPhone/Blackberry/whatever. I’m working on the 1st one as I type.
  • The Path: The Video Game is in development, coming 2010! Seriously. With the ability to be ported to web, iPhone/iPod, and XBox 360!
  • Contactually-obligated updates! The Path won’t ever have a hiatus ever again! God help us all…
  • More swag and merch on the way!

That’s just what’s coming in the next year. Needless to say, I’ve been busy as hell getting stuff ready, doing pages, writing stories, and getting artwork done. Which is a lot easier, now that I don’t have to worry about the day-to-day business end of things like I used to.

But what does this mean for Mediocre Militia? It means I’m getting to a place where I can really help promote the group more and hopefully get some of you guys some more paying freelance gigs (we all need extra $ these days)!

ALSO, don’t forget that Carly, myself, Wingnut and Zac will be at Long Beach Comic Con in the artist alley! October 2-4, at the Long beach Convention Center! Then, the following weekend I’ll be at Baltimore Comic Con!

That’s about it for now. I gotta get more work done before I leave for work.

Long Beach Comic Con

We’re doing it. Like hyper bunnies eating Viagra-frosted corn flakes, we’re doing that con.

Long Beach Comic Con is October 2-4, 2009 at the Long Beach Convention Center.

Myself, Zac, Joey, and Carly will be there doing sketches, selling swag, and generally being loud and obnoxious.

The Path table and the Mediocre Militia table will be right next to eachother…just like the good old days.

Zac and Joey, if you need to ship stuff to my place, let me know. That way you can save the $50/bag crap on the airlines.

So…if you’re going to be in the Long Beach area that weekend, come by! We’re desperate for your attention!

New Yawk Comic Con ‘08

Seriously, bitches. Anybody at NYCC better stop by. I’ll be there. Also, as if THAT weren’t reason enough on it’s own, I’ll be with two lovely ladies who are clearly much more talented than I am.
Juno of Star Crossed Destiny fame, and JoJo who does my new favorite romantic comedy of mythic proportions, Dis: Life is Hell. There’ll be comics! There’ll be…other stuff, too! But, seriously. Anyone there should stop by. Something tells me Juno and Jojo will be almost as much as my MM boys were at TX (damn, I miss you guys).

SPEAKING of MM, your fellow MilitiaMen Carly and I will be at WWLA in march. No, I’m not changing it to “MilitiaWoman for Carly. Not because she’s lacking in femininity, but because we’d lose the alliteration, and I like alliteration. At least i THINK we’ll be there. I honestly have no clue. I imagine I’ll know for sure when I get a call that Friday from Carly saying, “Where the hell are you?!”

That’s it for now. It’s starting to look like you might have a TOOTHACHE.

WWTX: I DREW HER WITH HANDS!!! (this will be explained later)

Yeah…we EARNED posing like that. We were magnificent.
(l to r: Zac, Acadia, Wingnut, Riot)

MM put in one hell of a showing at WWTX. Between sales, sketches, and ridiculous tomfoolery, I doubt anyone had as good a time as we did. There was a lot of feeding off each other, pimping each other’s wares, and pimping MM (there’s gonna be some work headed our way, too). Zac and I sat on that “Business of Webcomics” panel…which was interesting. Our table wound up being next to Arthur Suydam, which led to TONS of extra foot traffic and an almost captive audience for most of friday and saturday. The COOL part was, most of the people who were our captive audience fri and sat came back on sun just to see us.

You’ll also notice a few new names under the MilitiaMen heading: the ridiculously talented Amelius, EvilEmperorNick, and Creepy Carly. So be sure to click on those links over there and check out what makes them so awesome (if you’re one of, maybe, three people who don’t know already).

There’s a lot more stuff to follow, but I have to get ready to catch my ride to the airport and head back to Cali. All you MilitiaMen (and women), need to draw a picture of yourself in a similar pose to the picture of us four above and send it in to Acadia…we have fun things planned for this page.

Really quick, there are some people that NEED to be shouted-out to: Melissa, Jen, Lindsey, and Awesome Wheelchair Lady (whose name I can’t remember at the moment, because I’m a jerk). They kept coming by our table, goofing off with us, demanding sketches and buying me beer.

Quite frankly, even if we HADN’T done well…we still would’ve had a blast. You’d think we’d all been friends for years the way we were carrying on, and I can’t wait until WWLA…because we get to do it again. I’m going to miss those morons.

That’s it for now, I’m sure Zac will do a better newspost later on and I’ll do a more encompassing photo-post later on.
