Things! So many things!
Heya folks!
Just thought I’d keep the rest of you up to date about certain designs and business ideas that I’ve been implementing lately.
First things firs, I found a combination that would get you a full color 2×5 vinyl banner and stand AND bag AND including shipping, for $77.76. I’m making one, in fact that’s today’s goal. The banner you can purchase here and the you want this stand. This seems like a pretty winning combination, but I can be the guinea pig for this first batch as well, and I’ll give status reports.
I’ve also been implementing a lot of store changes, but those’ll be further along when I have more merch. But for now, I’ve started slipping these in with commission orders. I put my business card in the holder there, and since they’re printed off on cardstock, I can also draw a little promo sketch on the back. On the back of my business card, I write the code which they can then use on their next purchase. These were just introduced yesterday, so I’ll let you know how they do. I’ll also be giving these out at AWA.

Speaking of AWA. Those of you who are going, I still need your press kits. I have most of Daves, but remember, I need your bio including when you joined MM, a short sample interview/FAQ, and three samples of your work. The purpose of these it to make a CD that we can hand out to people with press badges, letting them know a little about us. Good sample questions would be, “What got you into comics, how do you make your comics, and who are your major artistic influences.” Send it to me at tabts.comic(at)gmail.com
So there! Nyah!

What’s new in everyone’s lives? I’m currently working on graduating, a comic with some people out in San Diego, starting my own print on demand business, and doing freelance work.
We’ll be attending AWA in Atlanta in September. Joey, Dave, and I for sure…

UPDATED: Gentlemen, AWA 16 Applications
As Joey and Dave know, I’m buying the hotel and table for Anime Weekend Atlanta.
This Convention is September 17-19.
I will be driving there, so I can pick people up from the airport.
Anyways, What I need from anyone who is CERTAIN they can come is an online portfolio of work. 20% can be fanart 80% can be original. However the more original the better.
I have to submit a portfolio for each artist coming, so I need them before the application process begins (this cons Artist Alley fills up really fast)
Here are the official rules from THIS YEAR, I’ll post the updated ones when they post.
The email needs to contain the artist’s name, address, contact information (email address required, phone number optional), studio name if any, any specific seating requests (being next to a specific other artist, requiring an end table due to special circumstances, etc) and portfolio information.
The artist’s portfolio information should be comprised of two things. One, a general description of what they intend to have at their table for the convention. Second, a way for the Director to preview a sample of their work. This can be done via one of several methods, including a link to the artist’s website or portfolio, a link to the artist’s DeviantArt or similar online gallery, a link to the artist’s Flickr or other picture-hosting gallery, or some other, similar, method.
Review: The received portfolios will be reviewed to see if they fall within the Artists’ Alley guidelines. All work must fall within the AWA Artists’ Alley Art Guidelines (see below). An artist’s application may be accepted pending the removal of certain items that do not fall within the guidelines.
What is permitted in the Artists’ Alley:
1.Original artwork. The more the merrier.
2.Fan art is permitted in the Alley to a limited extent. (See Fan Art sub-section)
3.Parody work. Existing characters and situations used in a work of parody, in the artist’s own style.
4.On-site commissions.
5.Original plush toys, dolls, and similar items. Toys, dolls and other items depicting the artist’s original designs are allowed.
6.Hand-made jewelry is allowed.
7.T-shirts/bags featuring the artist’s original work and designs are allowed.
8.Original/handmade clothing and accessories (hairpins, umbrellas, gloves, etc) are allowed.
9.Original sculptures/figures are allowed.
What is not permitted in the Artists’ Alley:
1.No duplication/reproduction of licensed material.
2.No reselling of commercial products.
3.No food or drink.
4.No weapons.
5.No bootlegging or piracy.
6.No garage sale-like items. If you have such items that you wish to sell, try the SuperHappyFunSale on Thursday night.
Fan Art:
Fan art is defined as an interpretation of an existing character in the artist’s own style, falling under fair use.
Our fan art rule had several problems last year, both a certain vagueness to the rule and some people deciding that either it did not apply to them or finding loopholes to the 50/50 ratio.
The new, lower, percentage of acceptable fanart reflects the problems that we had last year. In addition, the following limitations and policies will be applied:
Limited prints. The Artists’ Alley is intended as a showcase for amateur and young professional artists to promote and sell their original work. It is not intended to be a way to make money off of mass production of other people’s intellectual property. As such, prints of fan art will be limited to 25 copies per image.
Fanart must be an original design, drawn in your own style with your own poses. (No tracing, duplication of an existing picture, etc)
Buttons, pins, hats, t-shirts, jewelry, and bags bearing the likeness of a licensed character are not allowed. This list is not inclusive.
Original commissions of licensed characters done at the convention will not be counted towards the 20%.
Adult Content:
Adult content material is allowed in the Alley, but must follow certain rules. If you are uncertain as to if a specific piece qualifies as adult, ask the Artists’ Alley directors.
1.Adult oriented includes extreme violence and gore as well as sexually explicit content.
2.Adult oriented work must be covered and labeled as 18+. Covered means that the naughty bits are concealed behind some sort of opaque shield. Stickers, Post-it notes, masking tape, sheets of paper, etc.
3.Artists are responsible for checking the age of any customer before allowing them to purchase, view, or commission adult content material.
I hope to see as many of you as I can. But I understand if you can’t make it. It’s a big conventions, the 10th largest in the US. They had 11,117 people in attendance last year. That’s about 8,000 more than NakaKon and 5,000 more than LBCC. It’s a darn big convention.
Lemme know guys.
-Zac
PS The hotel is already booked. It’s about a 3 minute walk from the convention.

Naka-Con 2010 Wrap Up!
Well first of all, thank you to all the amazing people who came by our booth! A special thanks to the ones of you who stopped by the website! That means a lot to us and we hope you keep up with our updates (as sporadic as they may be!)
We have a whole lot of community stuff on this site and we’d love our new fans and friends to help get it up and going again.
There’s a FREE oekaki board that you’re more than welcome to draw on, and a forum that is more or less needing some health.
We also post tips and tricks on here too!
Stick around! Be active! We enjoy your comments!
If you wanted a commission and we didn’t get to it, just let us know! We work digitally too (masterfully I might add) and we can work out any details in terms of payment or subject you want.
The artists you met this weekend were Joey, Dave, and me, Zac (no site at the moment)
But they’re not the only artists on here! Feel free to check out all of our talented members comics on the right side bar.
This was an incredibly fun convention and you guys were amazing to art it up for.
And as promised here are the photos from the con!

Naka Con-Day 1

Like a bat outta hell.
Hey there kids!
Just a quick update of the progress of Naka-Con Day one, a fairly slow friday business-wise, but otherwise it was super fun. A lot of fun people came to the table, and as you can see, we looked like badasses. Zac had a few extra eye patches for some bizarre reason, so we figured, “Hey, why not.” A lot of people came up to us, and as always, we were the loudest and most aggressive people there. We would have made you proud James.
We’ll have a larger update tomorrow, but here’s some pictures of the fun we had today.

Naka Con Itennerary!
Alright kiddies, here’s the deal’yo.
Naka-con is the Kansas City Anime Convention that will be held in the Hyatt Regency in the middle of Crown center. Trasportation to and from the Airport is available in the form of the KC SuperShuttle.
KCI SUPER SHUTTLE (Hours 5:50am-11:25pm)
$17.00 per person – $29.00 round trip per person. Leaves from Baggage Claim area at 5 minutes to the hour and 25 minutes after the hour. Reservations are not required.
Kinda unfortunate that they charge that, but it’s a hell of a lot cheaper than a cab, as that’s like $40. I will be arriving on Thursday evening, at around 5:30. Con-schedule is fairly standard, 4pm to 8pm on friday, 10am to 6pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm. Also, a fair number of my friends and family will be coming by, possibly not into the convention itself as day passes are expensive ($35) but they would love to hang out with us afterward (i.e. Food and Drink!)
As far as swag to bring, the majority of the items will be the magnets that I’ve been working on, and the prints that always seem to follow me at conventions. I’ll have my banner and the markers as per usual. Any vertical display that you guys can think of would be great, as I don’t really have anything that would work.
I’m lookin’ forward to this one guys, I think it’ll be great.

Feb/104

So, back in November, I was hired by a writer named Joseph Pignataro to do the art chores on a Sci-fi/Horror comic he had written called “Children of the Apocalypse”. Long and short of it, a few months, a few speed bumps, and a few rewrites later, the project gets new life under the new title of “Apocalypse Jack” and is now being represented by an agent named Wendi Niad (anybody who likes Ender’s Game might recognize her name as the agent who helped get the Ender’s Game comics done) who has done work with Marvel Comics in the past and is getting this project placed on Joe Quesada’s desk at the end of the month for consideration. The story revolves around the whole Mayan “2012″ thing. I didn’t write it, I’m just the drawing monkey on this one. What you see here is the cover for the first issue, which is also being used as the cover for the pitch. The Marvel stuff was added to basically be like, “Look how good that Marvel name looks on that! Just make it official, damn it!” If this project gets picked up by Marvel, it means good things for The Path, too! With the extra money from the big “M”, I’ll be able to quit one of my jobs and devote more time to my comic-baby. Wish me luck, gang! We’ll all know around the end of the month!
